Nicolet  college is launching a new, two-year Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse associate degree program this fall. The 64-credit program will train students to treat people struggling with drug, alcohol, and other issues. Dean of Health occupations at Nicolet College, Lenore  Blemke, says students with this degree will be able to help people in the community.

“We really felt that this was a good program, not only for the community but for people who have degrees in related areas..a nursing degree, a sociology or a psychology degree, and give them a more specialized degree in which they can counsel and help people.”

Blemke says the degree is perfect for anyone looking to start a career in the AODA field as graduates will be eligible for licensure in Wisconsin as Substance Abuse Counselors-in-training.

She says there’s a great need in the Rhinelander community for alcohol and drug abuse counselors because of the high rate of addiction in the area.

Nicolet received a grant in connection with Northcentral Technical College so that students at Nicolet would be able to receive a full associate's degree in the AODA field.

Fall semester will begin on September 1st. For more information or to register visit nicoletcollege.edu
