No One Hurt In Vilas County Gun Incident

en.wikipedia.org

No one was injured as several law enforcement units converged in the Eagle River area Wednesday afternoon after a call from an armed man who said he was going to harm himself.

The Vilas County Sheriff's Department reports the 911 call came in shortly before 4:00 p.m. The man said he had a 9mm handgun and two magazines. As deputies arrived, the man fled into the woods. As law enforcement was setting up a perimeter some shots were allegedly fired in the general direction of the officers. Neighbors were evacuated.

A drone sent aloft found the man in the woods and SWAT teams and the Rhinelander Police Department K-9 unit converged on the man and took him into custody without incident.

Several law enforcement agencies assisted the Vilas County Sheriff's Department including the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission and the DNR.
