Northern Home Sales Jump In February

invest-smart.org

Northern home sales shot up in February, compared to that month last year, by almost 17 percent.

That’s better than the statewide average, which showed a less than two percent rise…according to numbers from the Wisconsin Realtors Association.

Economist Dave Clark says a milder winter may have helped the market.

“We’re really comparing to a February last year that was pretty weak. We had that long cold winter, and you know spring came a lot later than it typically does.”

Median prices fell in northern Wisconsin by almost ten percent in February, but Clark doesn’t read too much into that number.

“And that’s probably just based on the mix of homes that sold this year compared to last year. It’s likely that the homes that sold were smaller homes, less desirable, rather than that significant of a drop in a home of consistent quality.

The median price of a home selling in northern Wisconsin last month is $90,000.

Statewide the figure is just under $138,000.
