Northland Pines Closer To Eagle River Annexation

Facebook: Northland Pines Schools

An agreement that would annex the entire Northland Pines Eagle River campus into the city is very close after discussions this week between the school board and city administrator.

While Pleasure Island Road that serves Northland Pines belongs to the city, the school property is in the adjacent town of Lincoln, but is connected to the city sewer and water utility. The school has been hesitant to annex into Eagle River and then get specially assessed for road improvements; language in the proposed agreement would not let that happen. The agreement would be for a specific time period . . . 30 to 40 years . . . with five year extensions.

City administrator Joe Laux said the agreement language would prohibit the city from imposing any special assessment during the term, or during any extensions. School board vice-president John Sarama felt both sides are getting closer to reaching an agreement for full annexation into the city.
