Northwoods Musician Gets Permit For Chickens

commons.wikimedia.org

An application to provide for cooped chickens came before the Rhinelander City Council Monday night.

Since 2013, the city allows homeowners to have the birds under tight controls. Most of the requests have gone through city government routinely, but the council Monday had an objection to location.

Scott Kirby requested a coop at 15 South Pelham St. A neighbor wrote a letter saying he had no objection, but another letter from the Northwoods Historical Society next door was in opposition, citing pollution and odor concerns.

When no one from the Historical Society appeared to object in person, the council voted to approve Kirby's request with only council member Tom Gleason voting in opposition.

Kirby is a well-known Northwoods musician and is a host at WXPR.
