Northwoods Transit Connections is continuing to grow with some added routes being added soon, providing a public transit option for residents in Vilas and Oneida counties.
Transit Manager Jim Altenburg says the bus service has grown to the point they have 3 to 4 buses running the Rhinelander area, 2 to 3 in the Lakeland area, along with a couple buses in Eagle River.
He says a new service will be added in January with shuttle routes between Rhinelander and Minocqua...
"....I want people to sign up and call in with their interest(in bus ridership). Very important to us to formulate which bus, how many times a day that we're looking for on this route. We're probably going to be doing about 3 to 4 turns a day between Rhinelander and Minocqua...."
Altenburg says he encourages the public to give the bus service a try....
"....our local residents or their parents are living here and thinking about challenges of life..get on together, ride the bus..go do a family function together. Take the bus and try it out so people have an understanding of what we have to offer....."
Altenburg says at their website... northwoodstransit.org... they will have more information about the shuttle. He says they've had a large amount of interest in the Rhinelander to Minocqua route. He says Monday, Wednesday and Friday they have bus service between Eagle River and Minocqua and would like to have more service. He says on Monday, they have a bus going to the shopping spots in Rhinelander from Eagle River with a stop in Three Lakes and Sugar Camp.
