Northwoods Well Represented In WPS Energy Grants

Wisconsin Public Service

Several area organizations have picked up Wisconsin Public Service grant money for helping to save energy as part of the 2014 Energy Challenge.

Initially, 17 non-profit organizations were challenged with four tasks related to energy efficiency and weatherization during the two months of October and November. Fifteen organizations completed the challenge.

While no area organization made the top three, Leah Van Zile from Wisconsin Public Services says the Northwoods organizations who competed were tasked with some projects...

"....that included having 10 of their members reduce their energy consumption over two months, installing weatherization kits at homes, tracking their energy conservation actions that they're doing..."

Organizations were awarded up to $1000 for completing the challenge and the top three organizations that completed all challenge tasks while saving the most electricity were awarded an additional $500 grant.

Among the finalists were Lac du Flambeau Waswaagoning Youth Build  Minocqua Winter Park Trail Fund, Lakeland Retirement Foundation, Minocqua Northwoods Children's Museum   Eagle River, and Sunshine for Humanity Inc., Eagle River.
