Obama Approves Disaster Aid for Northern Wisconsin

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

President Barack Obama has approved federal disaster aid for eight northern Wisconsin counties hit by heavy rains and floods July 11th and 12th.

Governor Scott Walker says Tuesday's declaration will help local governments get assistance for up to 75-percent of repair costs for washed out roads and bridges -- plus tax funded facilities like the Saxon Harbor in Iron County, where dozens of boats were damaged. Up to 12 inches of rain caused more than 25-million dollars in public infrastructure damage.

Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Florence, Iron, Sawyer, and Washburn counties are eligible for the disaster relief -- along with the Bad River tribe east of Ashland. Aid was turned down for Price County, which did not have enough damage to be eligible.
