Oneida County Emergency Management is reminding the public that businesses are open 24 hours a day should someone need relief from the cold.

The WalMarts and Trig's stores in Rhinelander and Minocqua- Woodruff are open 24 hours each day.

Officials stress that at extreme temperatures, exposed skin takes less than 10 minutes to freeze. In an effort to keep warm, a person might be tempted to use a grill or some other type of heating device that emits carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S. Pets and livestock also need care as they can suffer from frostbite just like humans. They need more food and water at this time.

They also remind drivers to take along safety gear in your vehicle. If the motor stops, you could be in trouble. Take along a winter emergency kit that includes candles, a flashlight, snacks, extra clothing and a blanket.

From Wheeler News-Learfield Data:

(Green Bay, WI) -- When it's too cold to go ice skating, that's cold. Officials at the Titletown entertainment district in Green Bay have announced tubing, ice skating and the 46 Below Bistro are closed until Thursday -- even though it's nowhere close to 46 below. Dangerous wind chills led to an advisory which resulted in the closure, just a few days aftr tubing on Ariens Hill had opened to the public. Officials say Titletown will be open recreation facilities Thursday at 10:00 a-m.
