Olson Library Plans Changing Direction

Renovation and expansion planned for the Walter E. Olson Memorial Library in Eagle River will continue to move forward but the board of trustee's modified their direction Wednesday, June 16 after bids received this spring were greatly more than anticipated.

“We have to look at what we have in funds and what we can do with those funds,” Board Of Trustees President Laurie Stoegbauer said. “The building committee is recommending a new direction that could provide us flexibility for future needs.”

Library director Nan Andrews indicated they had two directions to consider; either raise more funds or redesign. She felt renovation and expansion could still be accomplished, just not as large as originally anticipated.

The $2 million currently received and pledged will allow a 5,000 square foot modification to the existing facility and the trustees will look at program needs and how to best accommodate those needs. They expressed appreciation for those who have pledged and provided funds and continued support for the library project.
