Oneida County Health Department Encourages Driving and Pedestrian Safety

The sidewalks will be crowded with area school kids who make their daily walks to and from school. Oneida County Health Department Nurse Rob Deede warns kids to pay special attention to pedestrian safety as they make their way to school.

“For the students walking to and from school, pay attention, be aware of your surroundings. Be on the lookout for vehicles and make eye contact with drivers as you’re walking on the sidewalk. Always yield for drivers and use the crosswalks and wait for the ‘good to cross signs.’”

Deede stressed the same importance for driver’s to obey road safety.

“Be on the lookout; know where all your pedestrians are on the left and the right side of the road. Yield to the pedestrians in the crosswalk or not even in the crosswalk. Be on the lookout for these kiddos and these pedestrians walking to and from school.”

Deede says for more information about pedestrian and vehicle safety visit the DOT’s website at dot.wisconsin.gov.
