Oneida County Sheriff's Office Holds Active Shooter Training

Sounds similar to gun shots will be heard on Nicolet College’s campus next week, but the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says don’t be alarmed. The simulated shots are part of their annual active shooter training program, and officers from around the Northwoods will be taking part in the training. Officer Lloyd Gauthier says the training will include student, staff and law enforcement role playing with simulated 9-1-1 calls…

“…it’s very important that we train officers when it comes to situations under stress, your body responds the way it’s been trained. The more you can mentally rehearse or physically rehearse in an environment as close to an environment you may be in some day the better response you’ll have as an officer or even as an individual.”

Gauthier says debriefing after each scenario is the most crucial part of the training. He says it’s a time for officers to reflect on their thoughts and actions and what they might do differently.

This year’s training will be held at Nicolet College Tuesday, May 24 and Wednesday, May 25 and is closed to the public.
