Open House At Three Lakes Tuesday To Show Town Plans

The Three Lakes Historical Society, the Demmer Library Board and the Town of Three Lakes are inviting local residents to an open house at their buildings tomorrow afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The three partnered in 2015 to develop a design incorporating space for a single building complex with shared rest rooms.

Three Lakes Town Chair Stella Westfall says the idea is to give seasonal and year-round residents a chance to see the plans...

:.....the town office, the Demmer Library and the Three Lakes Historical Society are going to open the doors to the general public so people can come in and look around at the buildings, ask questions, give their input as to the future of the library, historical society and town offices...."

E.U. Demmer Library Director Erica Brewster says the open house was set for Tuesday to give everyone a chance to see what is planned....

"...we want to give an opportunity to all our summer visitors, our seasonal residents who pay taxes in Three Lakes but don't get a vote here, to come in and to talk about the proposal and get their feedback on where we're going with it....."

At the April Annual Town Meeting, electors voted by a 10-1 margin in favor of proceeding with rebuilding the town offices to include the police department, food pantry, an addition to the library, and year-round space for the Historical Museum.

The total cost is estimated to be #3.6 million with a million dollars in private donations raised by the library foundation and $100,000 pledged by the historical society. The town board would levy no more than $1.6 million for the town office complex. The library portion is $900,000 short of goal. The town board has suggested a possible advisory referendum, but has not made a final decision.
