A tongue-in-cheek quote these days in the Northwoods is, 'gee, we could use a little rain'.
A National Weather Service spokesperson says the rainy pattern will hold for a few more days, but after the 4th of July, more common summer weather is likely to arrive.
Scott Cultice says it looks like on-and- off showers into next week, but a change might be coming...
"....looks like a change of pattern here, maybe next week Thursday and Friday, July 6th and 7th. Looks like the upper level high is starting to build and definitely some warm air should be moving in. So we have another week to go with this unsettled, cool pattern...."
Cultice says a Canadian jet stream...the upper level air flow that directs weather systems...has been locked in over the Upper Midwest. Out west, temperatures have soared to extreme heat levels while the northern jet stream has blocked the high pressure out west from moving east, but that appears to be changing. Cultice has a sneak peek to the 4th of July weekend forecast that has a warming trend...
"..maybe a chance of thunderstorms on Saturday and another chance of storms on Sunday night. Temperatures probably right around where they should be this time of year, upper 70's..maybe crack 80 if we get some sunshine..."
Weather data indicates April, May and June have been at or near record rainfall levels. Temperatures have mostly been at or below normal levels.
