Phelps Chamber Gets JEM Grant For Maple Syrup Fest

The sixth annual Phelps Maple Syrup Fest is set for April 1 and the state is helping to promote the event.

Department of Tourism spokesperson Kristina LeVan says the money is used to get people to come to experience Phelps...

"....the JEM grant was given to the Phelps Chamber of Commerce to promote their Maple Syrup Fest. With all JEM grants, the funds given to organizations are used for advertising and promotional efforts to spread the word, maybe hit a new market invite new people to experience a new festival or event. In this case, it's the Maple Syrup Fest which has been going on six years...."

The Joint Effort Marketing Grant was for just over $7,000. The event is set for April 1. The Phelps Maple Syrup Fest shows the history of maple syrup production and how it relates to the Northwoods. There are also many activities planned.

Wisconsin is the fourth largest maple syrup producting state in the nation.
