Plea Possible In Minocqua Embezzlement Case

Oneida County Sheriff's Department

The case against an Arbor Vitae woman for allegedly embezzling tens of thousands of dollars might be moving toward a resolution.

47 year old Brenda Wigglesworth is charged with two counts of theft from a business setting of more than $10,000. Wigglesworth was the office manager at the Northwoods Animal Hospital in Minocqua. Investigators  allege she did not always deposit all the cash from daily transactions. Other irregularities  were also allegedly discovered.

In Oneida County Circuit Court, Wigglesworth's attorney, Lindsay Erickson, indicated talks to resolving the case short of trial are underway. She says she spoke with the District Attorney's office about an agreement late Monday...

"....I gave a proposal to my client and we weren't able to connect until last night  about a quarter to six. The proposal includes pleading to a felony charge and some substantial jail time. At this time we do not have an agreement...."

Wigglesworth has pleaded not guilty. Erickson indicated they might hire their own accountant to help the defense case.

Judge Patrick O'Melia postponed the start of the jury trial, which had been set for December, to February, to allow the defense to figure out what they want to do. Another pre-trial hearing was set for Dec. 19, one of the two days planned for the original trial.
