PRAT, Antigo Referendum, Campaign Finance Parts Of WXPR Program

commons.wikimedia.org

Wisconsin's primary election day is April 5.

Listen for an hour-long program on two local issues on the ballot, and a discussion on campaign finance and reform. The City Of Rhinelander is requesting a half-cent on a dollar increase in the local sales tax to be used exclusively to repair streets. Called the Premier Resort Area Tax, the legislature mandated the city hold a second, binding vote after an advisory referendum passed last year by a 2-1 margin. Officials say the tax will mostly be paid by people who come to Rhinelander to shop and work.

Also in the program is a look at Antigo's School District referendum, where voters will decide whether to approve $26 million to construct a new elementary school in the city of Antigo, remodel some schools and close others. The final portion of the program is with Matthew Rothschild from Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, who will talk about how money is influencing politics on the national and state level. The program will be broadcast on WXPR at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 1 with a repeat broadcast Sunday morning, April 3 at 9:00 a.m.
