Prescription Drug Take Back is Saturday

www.thedrugspot.com

The next drug take back day is set for Saturday in four Oneida county places.

The take back allows residents with unwanted prescription drugs to turn them in at collection points for disposal, no questions asked and no charge.

Rhinelander Police Department is one collection spot. Police Chief Michael Steffes says the goal is get the drugs off the streets....

"....I think it's very important to get the prescription drugs that are not used by the person that received them off of the street and not in medicine cabinets. Number one, to save our landfills and save our water supply. But in addition make sure that people are not going to steal medications for other illegitimate use...."

No questions are asked. Last April, Wisconsin residents turned in nearly 25 tons of unused drugs at 200 collection points. Inhalers and syringes will not be accepted.

Other collection points are at the Three Lakes town hall, Oneida County Landfill, and Minocqua Police Department. The collection times are from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Steffes says Rhinelander Police has a drug drop box in the department lobby that is open year round.
