A Northwoods consortium called HOPE is continuing work toward reducing the opioid and heroin addiction problem in the Northwoods. The consortium consists of 20 organizations including medicine, county and tribal governments and addiction treatment facilities. Last year a large grant was awarded to continue the fight. Dr.Larson says a continuing effort to educate area health care providers to prescribe less opioid medicines has found a 45 percent reduction in the amount of pain medicines being prescribed.
