The public is invited to a forum on broadband expansion in the Northwoods, presented by Grow North Regional Economic Development Corporation.

Executive Director Angie Schreiber says the regional forum is designed to give the public the latest information....

"....we're going to have all our major(broadband)providers and it's going to be held in a panelist forum. Each provider is going to have a few minutes to talk about their individual companies and their build-out plans ...and then we're going to open it up to the floor...."

Schreiber says the rollout of the state plans will have a large impact on high-speed internet in the north...

".....millions of dollars are going to be spent over the next five years or so in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and many people don't know what areas will be affected. It's a huge effort, affecting just about everybody...."

The state has distributed about $5 million dollars statewide this year through grants to local providers to expand service, including grants in central and northern Wisconsin.

The Grow North Broadband Forum is set for Friday, May 13 at North Star Lanes in Antigo from 1-3 p.m. Schreiber says they will talk about the Connect America funds, expansion projects, and state funding.
