RAFP Community Garden Using Social Media Fundraising

Rhinelander Area Food Pantry

An effort to raise money to help the Rhinelander Community Garden is 'growing' on social media and crowdfunding.

The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry Community Garden has joined in a challenge grant sponsored by Seedmoney, a Maine-based non-profit that helps community gardens with funding.

Tom Jerow is co-chair of the Rhinelander Community Garden and says they need to revitalize the garden and thought this effort would help...

"....we've been gardening for about 10 years. providing about 3,000-5,000 pounds of food a year and we needed to replace a lot of our tools, get a new wheelbarrow, that kind of thing. We always look at different grant sources when we have those kinds of needs...."

The food is distributed through the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. Jerow says the effort is through social media...

"....share it on Facebook and Twitter. We're not looking for hundreds of dollars from people, we're looking for more like $10 or $20 from people. Small amounts. It's easy to use your phone to donate, credit card,Pay Pal, that kind of thing...."

Jerow says the concept is to raise a lot of small local contributions that will be matched up to $400 and they have a goal of $1,200. More on the Community Garden is found on the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry website, and more on the challenge can be found at seedmoney.org
