The Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association is hosting an event next weekend near Rhinelander to raise money for area silent sport trails.

RASTA spokesperson Suzanne Flory talks about the Snowshoe hare race...

"...it's a great opportunity for folks who have never snowshoed before, or folks who are doing it a lot and doing different races to come out and enjoy the day. It's January 11 and it will be at Holiday Acres...."

There's a 5K walk-run and and a 10 K race with registration Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Some snowshoes will be available..

Flory says snowshoeing is way to enjoy the outdoors during the long winters...

?

"....you can go pretty much anywhere on snowshoes as you basically float on top of the snow. There are different sizes of snowshoes. There are longer ones and people use the shorter ones for getting around a little faster on snowshoes..."

The event raises money for on-going silent trails maintenance and grooming. More information on the event is at rastatrails.org
