Wisconsin realtors are reporting a  rise in both home sales and the prices buyers paid.

Wisconsin Realtors Association President Michael Theo says in March, home sales jumped 16.1 percent over one year ago and median prices rose  more than 8 percent from March of 2014 to $149,000.

Theo says the benchmarks they use show the market is returning...

"....so the fundamentals are good. We're seeing unemployment dropping(statewide) to 4.6 percent, Our 30-year fixed rate conventional mortgage is at 3.77 percent in March and our inventories are in a relatively good balance...."

Theo says 27 percent of all yearly sales happen between March and May. In the Northwoods, the median price was off about 4 percent from last year at $105,000, but sales were up 10 percent at 1, 032 units sold in 18 northern counties in March.
