U.P. Residents Can Find Heating Help Online

Upper Peninsula residents looking for help paying utility bills or heating homes have a central source to go to for help.

The Michigan Propane Gas Association has put together a non-profit website at heatingmyhome. orgthat has agencies and places residents can find help.

Spokesperson Joe Ross says after the brutally cold winter last year, this type of "one stop shop" was needed....

"....we tracked down throughout the U.P. even church groups, local non-profit's as well as federal and state agencies that can help, too. And even help for the elderly...."

He says regardless of how you heat your home, there is information on the non-profit website to help...

"...the challenge is we have to get ready for January(and much colder weather) and now is a great time to do it. Energy efficiency and if you need help paying for your energy bills, then go to heatingmyhome.org and you will find local agencies that can help you do that...."

Ross says persons without Internet access can find the site at a local library.

According to the Coalition To Keep Michigan Warm, unmet needs for energy assistance are at historically high levels in the Upper Peninsula.
