Rhinelander Approves Its Part Of Land Purchase

The city of Rhinelander has officially approved it's portion of a land purchase west of Rhinelander called the Heal Creek property.

In May, the Oneida county board approved a compromise plan for two parties wanting the land to buy portions of it. The Hodag Sports Club will pay about $209,000 for two parcels totalling 209 acres. The city of Rhinelander will pay $60,000 for 62 acres.

At the Monday city council meeting, Finance committee chair Mark Pelletier said this approval completes Rhinelander's portion of the deal...

"...this is our official offer to make purchase. We did have the money set aside for this. I think it's moving along, I'm not sure of the official time frame, end of the year...."

Oneida county originally thought the property next to the Northwood Golf Course would be an industrial park. They paid more than a half-million dollars for it. The park never happened and the county wanted to sell the land. The purchase price was at the appraised value.

The city of Rhinelander wants the land to establish recreational trails on the largely undeveloped land. The full sale is likely to be completed later this year.
