Rhinelander Area Food Pantry Has A Challenge For Donations

Dept. of Defense

Local residents are asked to come forward and once again support an annual challenge sponsored by the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry.

Executive Director Guy Hansen says the Spring Challenge happens during March and April....

"....we have a person who will match all the contributions, both food and money, that are contributed during March and April. It's not a 1-1 match, it's a smaller match, but it is a match none-the-less and it does help increase the amount of donations we get during these two months...."

Philanthropist Alan Feinstein formerly donated the challenge to food banks across the country but that grant has ended. Hansen describes how the public can help out...

"....any food counts as a dollar a pound, so any food is a way to contribute. That can be brought to the food pantry(627 Coon St.) any weekday morning between 8 a.m. and noon. If you have enough we will pick it up. Or, money. Any contributions don't have to be designated for the Challenge, but they can be sent to BMO Harris Bank in our name...."

The Pantry is also sponsoring the CANTASTIC event at the Rouman Cinema with structures made from donated cans of food by area organizations. Those designs also contribute to the Challenge. Hansen says other local businesses are also having food drives. More information is available by calling the food pantry, or going online to atrhinelanderareafoodpantry.org
