He saved his six-month old sister and his four year old brother, and Friday 7 year old Adam Cameron Lee Granger was honored by the Rhinelander Fire Department.
Rhinelander firefighters were called Tuesday afternoon to a house fire at 335 Brown St. Assistant Fire Chief Tom Waydick said they thought the worst when they heard there were children upstairs by the fire. But Waydick says Adam saved his siblings...
"...he went down the hallway to the back bedroom, retrieved his six month old sister Kierra from her crib, carried her back toward the fire to the exit, and on his way, encouraged his brother Ethan to follow him out of that structure. His actions, his quick thinking saved two lives that day...."
Waydick says Adam's father, also named Adam, went into the burning building, crawled down the hallway in thick smoke where he tumbled to safety after hearing the children had gotten out. Waydick says father Adam suffered burns to his arm.
Waydick and the rest of the Rhinelander firefighters involved presented seven-year- old Adam with a plaque for his bravery in saving his sister and brother. The fire started in the kitchen and flames had reached the ceiling.
Waydick says the exact cause of the fire is undetermined, but it could have started on the kitchen stove and is considered accidental.
