Rhinelander Festival to Dig Up Potato History
A new festival is coming to Rhinelander later this summer.
"Potato Fest" celebrates northern and central Wisconsin's industry and research facilities. A member of the organizing committee, Dan Kuzlik says Potato Fest will be August 31.
“That’s going to surround the history around potato growing and potato research in our area. We’ve done a lot of research on our own, and although we’ve got a great history up here nobody’s done anything around potatoes. So we’re going to do something in the fall and it’s going to be in Rhinelander, on the green space in Trig’s Plaza.”
Rhinelander is the site of a UW agricultural research station. Kuzlik says they are asking area residents with historical items to come forward.
“We are going to have an educational exhibit about the history of potatoes in our area. And it’s going to run at the ArtStart building from July 10th until August 30th. And we’re looking for people in the area that might have access to pictures, articles, equipment, whatever that they might want to lend to us for that display.”
The display will move from ArtStart in downtown Rhinelander to the festival grounds on August 31.
Kuzlik can be reached at 715-362-1714. More information on the event will be released later.
