Rhinelander Police Department Fundraising to Sustain K-9 Unit

www.rhinelanderpd.com

Drago, the Rhinelander Police Department’s solo K-9 patrol and narcotics dog is nearing retirement age.

The department is hoping to raise enough money to find a new member for their K9 unit when Drago retires. Police Chief, Mike Steffes says they’re selling stuffed animals to raise money.

“We are selling Canine Hero Dogs they’re called.. And they’re available here at the Rhinelander Police Department as well as some of the different retail establishments around town and some of the banks. Anyone can purchase a Hero Canine for $15, minimum donation and we’re hoping to raise enough to be able to purchase a new dog.”

Steffes says police dogs usually work until they’re about 10 years old.

Once Drago retires the department hopes to have money saved up to purchase a new member of their K-9 unit.
