The University of Wisconsin-Rhinelander Agriculture Research Station and Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association are inviting the public to pick potatoes Thursday. Director of Rhinelander Area Food Pantry Guy Hansen says it’s an effort to support the mission of local food pantries.

“…for the last few years, they have a potato picking event in the fall about potato harvest time, and it’s a fun event, the weather has been fantastic the last few times. Last year we picked about seven tons of potatoes that went to our food pantry in Rhinelander and other pantries in the area.”

Hansen says people can pick white, yellow, purple and blue potatoes, and take a few home.

The potato harvest goes from 3:30 to 6:30 pm September 24 at the Agriculture Research Center on County Trunk C.
