RHS Mock Trial Team Begins Quest For 18th State Title

en.wikipedia.org

Rhinelander High School's Mock Trial team begins its quest for an 18th state title this weekend in regional competition in Wausau.

Mock Trial is a competition where two squads argue the sides of an agreed upon question. The competition is similar to actual courtroom give and take and one team wins the round.

Rhinelander will be represented by two teams. Besides 17 state titles, the team also has won 28 consecutive regional titles.

Long time coach Kathy Vick-Martini says they have several members back this year from last year's state champion, but this is another year...

?

"....we have several members back from last year's team. We graduated two Seniors and the remainder of the team is back. But they are very young and inexperienced compared to most of the teams in the state...."

This year's case is centered around a homicide involving two law school roommates and includes social media and gun play.

She was asked if the subject matter was more difficult than the past...

?

"....I don't know if it's more difficult, but it is more fun. It's a homicide, and we've had a few(past) years with some rather dry facts. The kids have been enjoying this role..."

The competition is judged by local attorneys and judges. Other Rhinelander coaches include attorney Amy Ferguson and Oneida County Circuit Judge Michael Bloom, who has helped coach the teams for many years
