Ribbon Cutting Sunday In Conover To Mark Trail Opening

GHT

A ribbon cutting is set for Sunday in Conover to mark the opening of a portion of a long sought after bike trail between Conover and Phelps.

Great Headwaters Trail spokesperson Jeff Currie says the town board suggested a formal ribbon cutting for the 3.2 mile portion...

"....this three miles is done, it's paid for. It's the most expensive part, it's the most difficult part because of wetlands and three water crossings which included two bridges, which cost alot of money. We plan to do the next five miles this summer...."

The Ride in the Park takes place Sunday at Conover Community Park from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited to the park just east of Highway 45 and Vilas county 'K'. Currie says while there are activities, abundant food and refreshments, there will be a ribbon cutting for the first portion of the Conover-Phelps Trail at noon...

"....there's work to be done on that, but we've got good news on donations that we'll be announcing at the ribbon cutting on Sunday. That's taking us down the road on the money needed to bid that project out...."

He says closing the funding gap is the last remaining element to getting the long sought after trail from Conover to Phelps. Other groups involved in Sunday's event include the Conover Sno-Buddies, Vilas County Horse Trails, Conover Fire and Rescue and lanover ATV-UTV club.
