The Rhinelander Oneida County Airport is leading the state in the percentage of passengers using a special program to get checked before boarding a flight.
Travelers may leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their compliant liquids and gels bag in a carry-on in select screening lanes.
The program allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to receive a “Known Traveler Number” and have the opportunity to utilize lanes at select security checkpoints when flying on 11 participating carriers including Delta Air Lines.
Airport Director Joe Brauer says the Transportation Security Administration began the 'pre-check' program at the airport. He says travelers have been using "pre-check" at a fast pace...
"....we had the highest percentage of 'pre-check' passengers in the state...over half of our passengers are 'pre-check'....."
Brauer says the number of passengers flying out of Rhinelander is up about 5 percent from a year ago. The airport offers two Delta Connection flights offered by SkyWest Airlines to Minneapolis-St. Paul.
