Scam Reported In Eagle River

co.vilas.wi.us

Eagle River Police Chief Mark Vander Bloomen is warning area residents of another scam in the region.

This time, people are getting phone calls or texts that there are problems with their account at a local bank...

?

"....what they're using in Nicolet National Bank which is formerly Mid-Wisconsin Bank. (The scammers) are using the transition between names to say (the customers) debit card has been suspended and they're asking to verify the debit card number and the year of expiration in order to reactivate the account. This is definitely a scam..."

He says employees at the police department and Eagle River city hall get those calls.

Chief Vander Bloomen says with all telephone calls of this type, it is fraud. He says you need to take quick action if you gave out your account information...

?

"...if they did give out information, they need to contact their bank immediately and take any precautions to safeguard their accounts. And if they did give their information out, we ask them to contact us...."

The Eagle River Police Department is at 715-479-1941.
