Six Year Old Crandon Girl's Death to be Investigated as Homicide

The death of a six year old Crandon girl has been ruled suspicious.

During a press conference Friday afternoon at the Forest County Courthouse, District Attorney Chuck Simono said initial examination of the girl’s body, who they’re identifying by the initials of A.R.P, coupled with observations and witness statements point to negligent or reckless behavior.

Police were called to the Grant Street Apartments in Crandon Tuesday morning where they found the six year old girl deceased. Simono says the investigation is being treated as a homicide and no arrests have been made.

“…so let’s start there. What the heck does suspicious mean? As far as suspicious, it means that we don’t have a clear case that she died from natural causes. Does it mean she could have died from natural causes? Absolutely, yes. The information that we need to determine whether the death was by natural causes or other means is going to take some time.”

Simono says investigators are waiting for toxicology reports, autopsy findings and subpoenaed documents which he says can take anywhere between six months to a year to be returned.

He says he doesn’t know if criminal charges will be filed. He says the charges, if any, will depend on the cause of death.

Simono says any potential use of drugs in or around the home is not relevant in this case at this time.
