Snow Piles Up In Northwoods

Snow continues across northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula this Veterans Day. Many cancelations of schools and activities. Road crews are working to stay ahead of the snow which began Monday morning, stopped for awhile mid-Monday, then picked up overnight, depositing several more inches of snow. Roads are snow covered and slippery across the north and travel isn't recommended.
Keeping the lights on has not been a problem so far for folks in northern Wisconsin, where up to 14-inches of snow and freezing rain fell in Day-One of a two-day storm.  The state's major utilities reported only a handful of outages as of five o'clock this morning.  Air travel has posed more of a problem.  About 175 flights were canceled by mid-afternoon yesterday at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul airport, where folks from western and central Wisconsin normally catch connecting flights.  Numerous other flights were delayed at the Twin Cities.  Airport spokesman Pat Hogan said the amount of snow has not been the problem -- it's the winds, and the blowing snow and low visibility that come with it.  Hogan says travelers should check with their airlines before heading to the airport. The National Weather Service says winter storm warnings will continue until between noon-and six p-m today in the northern half of the state -- where 1-to-5 more inches of snow will fall on top of freezing rain from last night in many central-and-northern areas.
