Solberg Says Money From Condo Goes To Howard Young Foundation

Dean Acheson

The developer of a 24-unit condominium project underway in Minocqua says he will donate all profits from it to the Howard Young Foundation.

Project owner Trygve (Trig) Solberg, well-known local businessman, declared his intentions Wednesday during a public hearing on a conditional use permit that the Oneida County Planning and Development Committee ultimately approved.

According to its website,t.he foundation promotes charitable support for Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff and Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital.

The committee attached more than a dozen conditions to the permit, the majority sought by the Minocqua Town Board. Among others, they prohibit rentals of fewer than 30 days, allows only eight boat berthing spaces on Lake Minocqua, and requires a storm water management system.

The hearing drew about two dozen people, some speaking in opposition to the project due to its closeness to the Highway 51 business corridor and its visual impact. But a few, like Mark Miller, said the project serves the desires of older people who don’t want the hassle of maintaining a home and lawn.

The project will be built in stages: a four-plex is currently underway. Jimmy Rein, a surveyor who’s been shepherding the project through the permitting process, says other units will be built as sales are made.
