Spring Forward! Time To Update Your Alarms

en.wikipedia.org

If you wake up a little grumpier on Sunday, it's because you lost an hour of sleep overnight.

Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

A state Emergency Management official says it's also a good time to remember to update your smoke and other alarms in your home. Tod Pritchard says when you change your clocks, change your batteries...

"....make sure your smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector has fresh batteries. It's also a good time to have an emergency kit ready to go. We're getting into the spring storm season and it's a great time to make sure you have an emergency weather radio ready to go...."

Pritchard says approximately three out of five fire deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms or homes without working alarms. It is recommended to have a smoke alarm inside each bedroom and install alarms on every level of the home including the basement. Make sure the alarms are tested monthly. All smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.
