State Moratorium On Utility Cutoffs Ends April 15

www.redmatrix.com.au

Wisconsin has a law that doesn't allow utilities to end electricity and fuel service during the winter. But the law allows utilities to end service after April 15.

Wisconsin Public Service reports nearly 28,000 customers are behind at least four months or more, an increase of 2000 from last year. The average amount owed is also five percent higher.

Leah Van Zile from WPS says it's time to contact WPS to make payment arrangements...

"....we will be looking at sending out disconnection notices to those folks who have not made any attempts to pay on their bill all winter...."

Van Zile says check to see if you are eligible for fuel assistance payments with county Social Services. But she says customers need to start making some payments. She says unlike a loan, a new bill comes each month on top of what is owed so it makes it even more difficult to get caught up.  She says contact WPS to make arrangements at 866-215-5812.
