Summer Homeless Count Set For Next Week

en.wikipedia.org

Volunteers will be out next week to count how many people are homeless in the Northwoods.

The Northern Wisconsin Initiative to Stop Homelessness--or N*WISH--Continuum of Care --is joining other homeless coalitions in the statewide count.

Volunteer Lori Hallas...

"....we again are going to have groups of people going out and doing the homeless counts to see if anybody is on the streets from dusk to dawn of that day. We're going to be in Crandon, Eagle River, Minocqua, Rhinelander and Antigo...."

The volunteers check at places where homeless people tend to go. . She says the count includes the temporary residents at Rhinelander's homeless shelter, Frederick Place,  and New Hope shelter in Crandon and other locations as part of the count.

She says the count helps secure grant funding to help the homeless in the region.

The count is set for July 29 into the early morning hours on July 30. On July 30, from 2-4 p.m. Hallas will be available at Northern Advantage Job Center in Rhinelander to meet with people, including those without shelter to learn more about homelessness. People without regular housing are also invited to stop in.
