It's National Tourism and Travel Week, and locally, the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce is beginning its summertime events with a community party Friday.
Chamber Director Maggie Steffen says tourism is very important to Rhinelander's economy...
"...We started this last year. It's the summer kickoff celebration. We do it this time of year as it coincides with National Travel and Tourism Week. We want to celebrate that. We also want to show how important summer is to our area. We have visitors come in, we have family and friends that come in, so our population increases, the amount of money coming in and it creates a ripple effect...."
Steffen says there will be plenty of food and music. She says the Masonic Lodge is offering some food..
"....they're also going with the theme, they're doing a pig roast. They're going to have pulled pork, brisket. They're doing grilled pineapple. They're having great salads....all of it goes back to the Masonic Lodge and it's only five dollars..."
The second-annual “Summer Kickoff Celebration” presented by Associated Bank and Kerber Rose is being held at the Masonic Lodge located at 23 East Davenport Street from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
