Survey Shows Residents Prefer Later OC Board Meetings

en.wikipedia.org

While the sample size wasn't as large as desired, none-the-less, a majority of respondents say they would like to have the Oneida County Board of Supervisors hold meetings in the evenings.

After several discussions and votes about having later meetings came to no change, the board voted to have Oneida County UW-Extension agent Tim Brown set up an online survey...

"....the majority of respondents to favor meetings that take place later in the day...they feel that meetings should be held later in the day and they are more available to attend meetings later in the day...."

Brown says among the 256 respondents,  a large portion were senior citizens and had a preference for later meetings. He says about a quarter of respondents said they were unable to attend a meeting because the meetings were held in the daytime. He says it also might spur more interest in holding public office as several board seats had either no candidate or just one person for the job last time...

".....a quarter of respondents said they would consider running for office if they held meetings later in the day. 60 individuals who said they would consider running for office, given the fact that switching meetings could possibly lead to more candidates which would make more competitive elections...."

Forest and Lincoln counties have evening meetings, while Vilas and Langlade counties mix the times between day and night meetings.

Brown says he sent the results to the county board to consider and might be asked to address the findings to full board at a later date.
