Swearingen To Chair Key Committee

Wisconsin.gov

State Representative Rob Swearingen(Wi-34) thinks he can get much done after he was named to Chair the Assembly State Affairs and Government Operations committee.

Last session, the Rhinelander Republican was vice-chair of State Affairs and Government Operations. He says he hopes both parties can work together to cut expenses and save taxpayers some money.

".....State Affairs is kind of a neat committee because it's a committee where everything they don't know where to put, goes. We know where DOT issues go...and DNR issues to others,so if a bill doesn't sit somewhere it goes to State Affairs. There's always something different..."

He says he also requested committee assignments concerning tourism and another in small business. But he will be on a committee that will see much debate in the new session....

"....interestingly enough, I got assigned to Transportation(committee)this session which will prove to be a challenge. Currently the state is facing just short of a $700 million dollar shortfall in the transportation segment. It's going to be a challenge to plug that hole..."

The legislature returns to session Monday(1/5/15)and Governor Walker and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch  will be inaugurated.
