Swearingen Likes State Budget; Senate Passes Budget

Wisconsin.gov

A Northwoods Republican says overall he's pleased with the Assembly-passed $76 billion state budget bill, saying it has good news for the north.

Republican Rob Swearingen of Rhinelander says he thinks the Northwoods got some money for key areas...

"one of the things I'm most happy about is the amount of money we're putting back into education, over $600 million dollars. High cost transportation aid is in that budget. I'm also excited there's additional money for FAB LABS as well as additional $14 million for broadband in this budget...."

UPDATE:The Wisconsin Senate voted 19-14 to approve the state's 76-billion dollar, two-year spending plan late Friday. The decisive vote came two-and-a-half months after the state budget was supposed to be finished. Governor Scott Walker is expected to sign it as soon as next week after just returning from a trade mission to Asia. Passage came after Walker promised vetoes which would limit when schools could hold referendums and speed up the repeal of a minimum wage for workers on public infrastructure projects. Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling of La Crosse said missing the July 1st deadline by such a wide margin shows dysfunction in the Republican-controlled Legislature. Shilling is a Democrat.
