'T-Bird Bridge’ Group To Use Social Media To Raise Funds

Miranda VanderLeest

A citizen group says it will use social media in addition to traditional fundraising methods to raise money for placing the iconic “T-Bird Country” railroad bridge panel on the Lakeland Union High School grounds.

Bob Metropulos, Jr., of “Friends of the T-Bird Bridge,” recently outlined their fundraising plans to the Lakeland Union High School finance committee. Those efforts will include a website and Facebook, as well as personal appeals and collection boxes. Metropulos says they don’t want their fundraising efforts to conflict with those needed to raise contributions for the anticipated renovation of the school’s outdoor sports facility...

“Our goal is to reach out to the people around the country. People that are passionate about the bridge and people who are from out of the area. These are people who normally would not be donating as much. We want to work with you guys. We don’t want to overlap..."

The group hopes to raise $250,000 for the project, even through Metropulos says the actual cost may be less than that. Anything over the cost would be donated to the school for student scholarships and projects.
