The Tip Of The Common Sparkler Is 1200 degrees

en.wikipedia.org

An expert is asking everyone using legal fireworks this weekend to remember the cost that can occur during what should be a fun time.

Tod Pritchard from Wisconsin Emergency Management says the safest way to celebrate the holiday is leave it to  professional displays. He says a sparkler tip burns at 1200 degrees...

"....if you put that into perspective, water boils at about 200 degrees...wood burns at about 600 degrees...glass melts at 900, so 1200 is extremely hot...."

U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 11,400 people for fireworks related injuries.

The risk of fireworks injury was highest for children up to age 4, followed by children 10-14.

Pritchard also says on Independence Day in a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported than on any other day, and fireworks account for two out of five of those fires, more than any other cause of fires.
