Tomahawk Voters To Decide Referendum Question Next Week

Wikimedia Commons

Tomahawk School District voters April 4 will decide a school referendum question.

District Administrator Terry Reynolds outlines the question...

"....what we're asking for a non-recurring referendum. We're asking $3 million each year for the next four years, sunsetting in 20121...."

Reynolds says the money, if approved, would be used to continue operations in the school district. He says Tomahawk schools have not gone to operation referendum before....

"...this is our first operational referendum. We've been very lucky and fortunate that we haven't had to go to a referendum in the past for operational purposes. Our last referendum was for a building addition back in 1999 or 2000. This is our first operational(referendum)...."

He says the district has been spending out of the fund balance and they've come to a point where they can't take it out of the fund balance any more. He says to keep the current programming, they're going to ask for the extra amount each year through 2021 to keep the programs current and vibrant.

According to the District website, a home valued at $100,000 would see about a $140 increase.
