Town Of Newbold Getting Ready For Disc Golf Course Start

Ellsworth Air Force Base

The Town of Newbold's Outdoor Recreation Area and Rookery Run Disc Golf Course appears to be ready, pending cooperation from Mother Nature.

Volunteers have been putting in thousands of hours to make the 18 hole course ready for opening this spring. Pete Cody has been leading the effort to get the course established off Highway 47 and Ole Lake road north of Rhinelander.

The historic snows this April has slowed the process, but he says the fundraising has been heating up....

"....$41,255 dollars and ten cents. During that period we have accumulated 2,100 volunteer hours and 69 volunteers doing various tasks at the disc golf course. All of the Rookery Run holes are now sponsored, including a practice basket...."

Cody says the course has plenty of health benefits....

"...Rookery Run will be a championship disc golf course. There will be 18 holes, with two T-Pads per basket so there will be a total of 36 pads, you can play the long hole or short holes. It gives people and opportunity to get plenty of exercise. If you do the whole course and you do some hunting for your disc, you do a little over 2 miles when you do the course..."

The start has been delayed because of the late spring. More information is available at the Town of Newboldwebsite.
