Trolling Change Won't Be In Place For Opening Day

creative commons wikihow

A proposed rule allowing motor trolling on all state inland waters is not likely to be ready for the opening day of fishing on May 2.

DNR Fisheries Management Specialist Tim Simonson says all the legislature still needs to act...

"....it's probably not going to be in effect given the timelines for the legislative review. It's probably going to be at the very earliest mid to late May...."

The proposed rule allows anglers to trail at least one sucker, minnow or other lure behind a moving motor boad, regardless of whether the occupants are casting other lures.

Simonson says an analysis indicated no significant difference between casting and trolling as measured by the success rate for muskies, walleye and northerns.

Simonson says go to the DNR website to keep updated on the change in rules.
