Tuesday Is National Voter Registration Day

Tuesday(9/26/17) is National Voter Registration Day. While this is a lull time for elections, the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods is hoping to get all potential voters registered.

League spokesperson Jane Trotter says some people forget when they move, they need to update voter registration...

"....in Wisconsin, a voter can self-register online if you're doing this more than 20 days in advance of an election. It gives people a reminder that if you've moved, if you've taken a new job...if you've changed your name, or even if you've just moved across the street, or if you've recently turned 18 this is your opportunity...."

She says the easiest thing to do is go to your town or municipal clerk's office, though many town clerks don't keep regular hours. She says League representatives will be at three area libraries Tuesday afternoon to help...

".....the LWVNW will be at several different libraries, Rhinelander, Minocqua and Merrill from 3:00-6:00 p.m. to help people to self-register to vote. That's a really good opportunity because we're doing it after work hours, there's Internet access which people might not have on their own and we have access to printers...."

To register, voters will need a valid driver's license or Wisconsin ID.

Trotter says in Rhinelander as an example, someone could move across the street and then be in another district. She says the League is urging people to go to MyVoteWisconsin. gov to check out their address to see if they are registered at their address. We have a link here.
